Bear

Postby Antvg » Sun Feb 14, 2010 11:37 pm

From what i gathered, to build a village, we have to acquire 4 bear teeth. From wiki i gathered that bear is one of the strongest animals.
So the question is: How much of a "strongest" he is? How hard it would be to kill one with our 3-man force?

Depends how you do it. I don't know about the "fair" way, but my friend and I killed 1 (VIII) without getting hurt by shooting at it from our boat. I also heard if 1 person lures it then you can trap it and shoot it, but that would be more difficult. They hit pretty high (like 40's or higher) so watch out =o.

The level X and IX bears that attacked my noob character were hitting him and ko'ing him with one hit that took away 9 hhp each time. They tended to miss with a few swipes however. This is since the combat changes.

I've managed to trap bears and pelt them to death without them ever taking a swing at me. If you don't mind using exploits, this is what you do:
Code: Select all
--x-x--
x-----x
x-----x
x--x--x
x--x--x
x--x--x
x-A--Bx
-xxx---

x - fire construction site
- - empty space
A - baiting position
B - trap closing position

Bears need two tiles to pass through, which is the basis for this trap. You aggro the bear and run to the position A. In order to reach you, he has to go through the U-shaped channel made by construction signs. When he is just about to reach you you run through the one tile wide gap next to you and place the final construction sign at the position B, effectively trapping the bear. Since the bear can't follow you he has to double back through the U-channel which gives you enough time to actually place the construction sign. You can make the whole thing longer to give yourself more time if you're having trouble closing the trap in time.

When you have the bear in the trap, killing him is only a matter of time. Just pelt him with a sling till he's dead.

Oh, and I don't actually make such solid walls, it's safe to leave single tile spaces in them. It's just that the schematic didn't look clear with the spaces.

Thanks for your responses, especialy Potjeh with his detailed plan.
Seems like our wish to create a village comes a bit closer.

i find that you can just walk up to the bear and build the trap around it...
nothing special about it -.-

From my experience, only bears level 6 and above are automatically aggressive towards you. They would kill my char with one strike, destroying leather equips in the process. :|

Lvl 5 and below you can fence safely.
