I just got killed by a bunch of Aurochs.

Grinding lp on huge grasslands is actually the best source to grind lp (at least it was with the old combat system, haven't tried with the new one). If you already have a decent fighting char it easily surpasses grinding bears. I am not sure if it is still better when you have to fence each animal in, I just killed them alltogether. Still better than non-combat grind after all.
