The basic method of getting a mine is with the prospecting skill.

You first need to get a high enough perception-exploration. It's probably best to raise your exploration rather than your perception, so that you can keep your attributes balanced. About 50 combined is the minimum. At that point you can see something called rustroot. It looks a like a red spray-painted surveyer's mark that coincidentally got put down on top of a spindley taproot.

You collect as many of these as you can find and make an elixer in a clay jar. Pick a likely looking spot where you hope a mine is located -mountains are good, and so are dirt barrens, caves are also good but can lead to dead ends- and click on prospect. Each root will be good for four tries. You will almost certainly get a pop-up saying "There are no minerals here" You just keep wandering around and trying -not too close to any unsuccessful spot- until the pop up tells you that you have whatever percentage of whatever mineral. For example, it might say 15% of tin. At that point you try to narrow it down by trying prospecting close to the lucky spot until you get to 100% of the mineral. And that is where you place your mine.

Another way of getting a mine is to buy one -obviously very expensive but if you catch a couple of silkmoths early on, or luck into good soil and good water so you can make super trees, this might be the way to go.

Probably your best chance of getting a mine is to find a nice group of players who are like minded and joining them. If you specialize early on and support each other you'll have a good chance of ending up with a village mine which you will co-own with them.

In the old map I've ended up with four different mines merely by wandering around until I found them abandoned and not covered with a claim. Not coincidentally all but one of them were tin mines, the least valuable sort of a mine. This cheap technique will probably not be available for quite a long awhile until plenty of players have established themselves and then moved on.

Instructions for finding mines:

1. Find carrots
2. Grow a huge patch, get 30-40 perception.
3. Find rustroot.
4. Search for a mine.

It's that fucking simple.

The best part is that your odds of finding a mine in the new world are double if not triple what they were that last time you started playing because iirc you started before random spawns and stuck around RoB until I gave you that copper.

Lman8786 there are players who are playing this game for few days or weeks(like me), so this kind of information is very useful. I dont understand why you need to comment something like that. U spend your time for writing, and others spend theirs for reading that.

I agree with Jackard on this one. The usual procedure for getting mines for noobs is the following:
Get rustroot extract, sail in a boat, where 100 people before you sailed because its the fastest way, for 20minutes, scanning effectively 0,1% of the map, not finding a mine, then opening a thread either in the bug forum or the congress, complaining how you cant find a mine because its bugged or because there are none on the whole map.

Same goes for scanning by foot, where you run a bit north, a bit east, then a bit south, then maybe a bit east, and thus scanning 99% of the same area 10 times because your mind is too narrow to realize how big the actual scan radius is and that every scan that is made before running 20minutes in the same direction is a complete waste of extract.

And thus the difference between newbies and noobs.
