Hunting with a sling

Postby Einar » Mon Mar 01, 2010 6:13 am

What determines the damage that I do?

Does it make any difference if I wait until my red attack bar is full before I fire, or is it fine to go on firing as soon as my aiming meter reaches green?

Why is it so darn hard to click on the animal? Sometimes I have to try and click on it a dozen times before I find a spot that will let me actually begin aiming. And why isn't it consistent at least? The fox I am trying to kill right now needs to be clicked low down on the chest. The one before that in the same position had to be clicked a tiny bit on the tree just behind the rump. The click spot I found wasn't even on the animal.

Update: waiting until my attack bar is full red seems to make no difference in how likely I am to hit, nor the damage that I do. I assume the attack bar is really only relevant for close-quarter combat. Can anyone confirm that?

The meter affects your accuracy. Possibly the reason you are missing is because your marksmanship skill is too low.
If you keep focusing on the shadow behind, you will not see the light in front of you.

Being successful isn't just about hard work and succeeding, it is also about picking yourself up when you fail.

I've figured out the aiming meter. Since it never gets to the very top I assume it is giving me a percentage to hit and the higher it goes the higher the percentage.

I am wondering why the damage I do varies from 3 to 60. Does anyone have any clue about that? If I raise my perception will the damage I do go up?

Your maximum damage depends on your sling (60 at q10). Your minimum damage is 0.5*(your perception/target's agility)*maximum damage. The actual damage will be anywhere in that range, determined randomly.

Also, attack bar has nothing to do with marksmanship, it's just the accuracy meter that you need to look at.

As for targeting, the tip of the cursor isn't actually the tip of the arrow, it's the pixel where haft and head of the arrow meet.
