Lower the Wilderness Level?

I've heard that the amount of houses and hearthfires placed in general proximity of one another will reduce the wilderness level. Unfortunately, despite myself and a handful of others working towards making a village, level X bears are still a way of life. Expanding my claim's greatly helped in reducing the suprise ambushes right outside my house, but still leaves me wanting for hide.

Does it just take time to lower the wilderness level? Or do you need a population in the double digits to lower it to where bears won't be as big a problem?

You're stuck with rabbits for hides and maybe sheep/cows if you get a little marksman.

Idol is the only real way to reduce civ levels. We've built a shitton of stuff and it hasn't even had a single point impact on civ levels.

imho best way to grind LS for the idol is looms with blocks (since sticks are now limited). It's faster than hunting if you can kill shit with slings even.

Bah, loom forests are ugly. Why not just finish them since you already have the trees cut down?

Thank you very much for the advice. If H&H wiki is to be trusted, then bear teeth are listed as a required ingredient for a village idol, so I can see this paradox I'm headed straight for here. Can't kill wildlife bigger than a bunny without reducing the wilderness level and the only way to reduce that is by trouncing a level X bear.

Well, at least cows and sheep stay at a manageable pace.

if you want to kill a bear, eat a ton of con food, get to max, grab a lot of ppl who did the same. then grab slings, bows, axes, and shields, and have at it! make sure you have a lot of HP though, a level x bear can do 200+ damage in a single hit!

Bear spawns don't have anything to do with time of day. I had four bears in my camp at noon.
