Tanning Hubs

I see that tanning hubs have 4 slots, however I can only put in 1 fur at a time. Why is this? Am I doing something wrong?

Also, this question may seem stupid but, can tanning hubs be used indoors?

They have four slots to put in larger hides like cow hides and bear hides. You can only put 1 hide per tub in though.
