How do I build a fire?

Hi there.. so I'm veeeery new at this game. I read the "starting" guide but I still can't figure out how to build a fire! I collected 5 branches, they're in my inventory, then I try to build but it says, "The construction site has no available building material". Help? :oops:

shift click the stuff in your inventory to transfer it to the build site (this also works to transfer into other containers)
