Size of the grids on my drawn map

I am starting to map my area, and also prospecting around it. I'm just wondering is a tile on the map a grid? it seemed more like 100x100 to me instead of 1000x1000, if it is a grid then I assume a whole piece of map on parchment, which is 5x5 grids, is a super grid of 5000x5000? Can someone clear this out for me?

Another question about prospecting, does it prospect 1000x1000 tiles away from where I stand or the grid I stand on like mapping?

Lol, nevermind second question it was dump durr, obivously how far away from current 1x1=1/1=1! grid
