How can I take car of my chickens?

You see I only play about three times a week and well I don't have time to take care of my chickens. I want them to live but I need to know how much food I should put in the trough. Also, how does raising chickens work? Please someone show me a list on how to do it correctly...

Left click seeds in your inventory, right click your chicken coop and repeat 10-20 times. Then the food'll last for about a week.
BTW you need a chicken coop to raise them, putting them in cupboards just won't work. They'll stay there and do nothing if not in a coop.

Put chicken into a coop, feed them and they'll lay eggs. Every hen needs at least 1 free slot beneath her (optimal: 2-4) to lay eggs.

Put a cock into a coop and the eggs shall eventually hatch into chicks, which will become chicken if there is food and 3 additional slots.

The better seed quality, the better the chick/meat gets.

Silliness aside. It's not hard to take care of chickens at all. Just put seed in the coup. Alternatively you can dump fodders from a food trough meant for livestock into the coup as well.

Build Chicken Coop+ deposit chickens into coop+ Place High Q Seeds into chicken coop=Win.

Don't place extremly low Q seeds into chicken coop as that=fail. Major fail.
