Hunting question

Postby drgn1290 » Mon Mar 22, 2010 3:07 am

I read somewhere that you can "fence in" the creature that you want to hunt (i.e. boars and foxes) and I have seen people do it. Recently, I have been trying to hunt boars and have the following problem. When I create a 3x3 grid of 1 branch contributed wicker baskets (with the creature in the middle), the creature seems to get out of the enclosed area. So I tried a 5x5 grid and had the same result. Using the same technique, I have noticed that I can score many hits (determined by my stone count for my sling) but when I move to get more stone, the creature gets through the fence. Does this technique not work anymore? In a similar vein, I was walking the map today and came across a boar that charged me. Are they not peaceful anymore?

Wicker baskets don't block the whole tile. Use fires.

yes pens still work, your pen probably had a hole. pens against trees or rocks may look solid however you usually have to go all the way around the tree. if your not confident in the pen, try to walk through it yourself in different spots.

Boars are not peaceful anymore. The update was Sunday morning (depending on your time zone/sleep patterns). You can read more in the announcement thread.

Much to my delight I have discovered that you can outrun a boar.

Now that boars are aggressive, you can't pen them in anymore. SO my question now is, how can I go about killing them with just marksmanship. I think I have a ~q12 sling with ~22 marksmanship. The other day I managed to kill one but I can't seem to repeat the process. Basically, I have tried letting it charge me and retreating to a boat, then attacking it, only to have it get scared off. I have also tried attacking it first with a similar result. Anyone care to help me out here?

Also, when I attack something with my sling, the damage is shown as two numbers, one in yellow, the other in red. Could someone elaborate on the meaning of these values/colors?

On a player character, those colours represent Soft HP (red) and Hard HP (yellow, generally a much smaller amount). Since creatures don't appear to have two sets of HP though, I have no idea why it shows these two numbers. At least, I've certainly never KO'd a beast without killing it outright automatically, so I have no idea.
