Two questions

Postby Hound » Mon Mar 22, 2010 6:36 am

I have a few questions.

1. How do I control the permissions of my memorized people/kin on my claim? I see the little buttons and stuff in the claim management menu, but I don't understand how it works.

2. Is there some kind of guideline for when you might have a chance at taking an animal of a particular level/type in hand to hand combat? Or perhaps a chart saying how much damage the base attacks of this or that animal do? Or maybe even and explanation of how damage and armor works in general, I can't seem to find that anywhere on the wiki. But Basically I'd like to know how strong I have to be before I can take things tougher than a rabbit. The enemies around my starting point seem to be between levels 8-9

EDIT: I thought of one more question >.>

3. After learning pottery and trying to get clay it seems very difficult. The wiki mentions that only one unit of clay can be found per "area" but doesn't specify what that means. I took area to mean each little square that you could potentially click on when you have the "dig for clay" cursor. However, after digging every square along a sizeable stretch of shore I only found one piece of clay. Am I doing something wrong? Is some kind of skill required to have a better chance of getting clay?

Look under the wiki (wikipedia) for haven and hearth. pretty much everythings in there. and note: if they tell you to only use two sticks in the oven to make carrotcake, USE TWO. i have six lovely piles of ash....that im not real sure what to do with.as for the clay, just stay put. try it that way when you are digging. either me and mine lucked out or we are setting on a gold mine, cause we just stand in one place and take as much as we want/need.

You can organize your memorized friends into color groups. You can also organize your claim permissions by group. Select a group and click the boxes to select what people in that group can do. Trespass means they can walk on your claim, theft means they can remove objects, vandalism allows them to destroy things.

Basically, areas have a quality of their own. If the quality level is 10, you are going to get one unit of clay per day from that area. Higher quality spots will hold more clay. AFAIK, anyways.

Ok, I don't know what you are smoking, but last I checked, there is no wikipedia entry for H&H. Also, clay collection has changed rather dramatically since the new map. Check the "Apocalypse" announcement.

Edit: Alamarian is correct about clay, I think.

The different colors in your claim correspond to the different colors you can assign to kin/memorized people. To set them, select the color, check the appropriate boxes, then close the claim info box. Make sure to double check that they are set the way you want (really, there should be an "apply" button.)

As to whether you can take on certain animals, that depends on a number of factors: what combat skill you plan to use, what kind of equipment you have, your stats.

A quick rundown of what affects what:
Combat skills- Marksmanship- How long it takes to aim at something.
Unarmed- Your chance of punching something, your chance of being missed using the "dodge" defense
Melee- Your chance of hitting something with a melee weapon, your chance of being missed while carrying a shield, using the "block" defense
marksmanship weapon q- your hit damage, and your aiming time
melee weapon- type determines your type of attack, damage, and attack speed, q determines your attack damage
armor- reduces the damage you take
strength- determines your melee & unarmed damage
constitution- determines your max hhp
perception- determines your min marksmanship damage
agility- determines the min damage you take from marksmanship
There are some finer points I have skipped.

A good way to start out hunting is to kill rams/aurochses by boat using a sling.

Thank you to both of you (skipping the first guy) very useful information

However, about the combat thing, I already knew what most of those stats and such do, what I was looking for was more of a numerical comparison, i.e. at what level of marksmanship/unarmed/melee can I take on a level 8-10 Boar?

I've tried attacking animals from the safety of my boat, but the meter fills up at roughly half the speed that glaciers move. How much marksmanship is required to make it at least a manageable speed? Is the speed with which the meter fills relevant to the level of the animal?

My marks is 70 right now. Yesterday I fought two boars. The first one I killed, even though I had to stop to chip stones. The second one got me because I tried punching and chopping it, and because I didn't have stones on me. both were lvl IX/X

I guess my recommendation is that marksmanship is not a good way to defend yourself from boars.

Edit: meter speed isn't related to animal lvl, 20 marks is a good starting point for hunting.

I don't know much about numbers but here's what I know:

Get all combat skills
Get a bear cape and a bear tooth talisman (total strength 80)
Get some leather armor

Skills: Unarmed: 50

Use the Jump attack and the Bloodlust maneuver on him to generate attack power (red bar) and punch him when it's full.

I killed a Level X fox that way. (I'm a pro, I know)

Hope this helps you.

Onion: okay so marksmanship twenty. If I understand the rules right, just getting from level 19-20 would cost 2000? And since that is the good time to start hunting (and therefore you cannot use animals to grind LP) what do you use to grind LP, if you don't mind me asking. Currently I use fishing mainly, unless i have something specific to do (build a cart, harvest something, etc) mainly because I can set my dood to fishing and go do something else, only periodically checking on him. Also, I assume from the way you mentioned chipping stones several times that you were using a sling to kill your boars?

Thurrok: So I'm guessing you traded for the bear gear, cause bears are so tough? Also, did the level X fox damage you a lot? Basically, was it a close fight or did you steamroll him?

EDIT: Also, thurrok, do foxes still run away when they get close to death? I haven't played since the first world, so I'm a bit out of the loop with these things.

if the animal is fenced in, you -can- start hunting at 10, but it will take a long time. before that was a loss cause your hunger went down faster than the meat you caught brought it up. Now, you can take your time. ideal when you are doing other stuff online too
Learn from the mistakes of others. You won't live long enough to make all of them yourself.
