Where and how to find seeds

Postby stoelberg » Thu Mar 25, 2010 12:03 pm

Hi, i'm neew to this game and have a hard time finding food. Most of my time goes to hunting rabbits, but there aren't many of hem.
I want to start farming, but have no seeds. There are no farms in my area I can steal seeds from, and I cant find any growing in the wild.
Do i have to have exploration points high to even see wheat in the wild, I currently have exploration at 4. Or does it only grow in special areas? I live in an area with only forest and swamplands.

Hope you can help me.

Regards
Starving guy.

Crops don't spawn like they used to. Now we have herbs called Wild Windsown Weed. You dry those in a drying rack or a herbalist table to get seeds. What seed you get depends on where you harvested the herb (terrain type is irrelevant, only coordinates matter). You need a minimum of 8 exploration to see them.

Hi Starving Guy ;)

First of all seeds wont just be there in the first 10 minutes as to say, so it may be wise to keep hunting till you have some.
You need to find WWW and dry them on a drying frame (made with 7 branches), and you already have hunting, the required skill.

WWW, Wild Windsown Weed, is the resource for seeds. You need high enough exploration to see them (per is hard to come too in the beginning) and pick them. Then place them on a drying frame, wait for them to dry and plant them (you'll need the skill farming). I think you can see WWW from 8 exploration (confirmation please someone?) but they become much more regular after 20. Also, dont expect them to be everywhere you look, they will always remain quite rare.

Good luck getting your farm up

Thank you for the answers. I'll just try to get my exploration up then and go look for it:)

You have to use a drying rack (the thing used for hides) before you can make a table. Anyway, farming isn't really an immediate solution to your hunger. I advise you to go out and explore until you find a grassland, heath or moor. Chicken flocks you find there are a great way to fill your stomach early in the game. Explore near water, you might run into a fishing spot while you're looking for grassland.

The WWWs. If you get hemp or flax seeds, you can plant them and grow fiber.

I steal them. Much easier.

Of course, you have to find someone foolish enough to leave plants outside of their claim. I do usually replant one seed for everything I take though. Then the fellow might plant things I don't have outside, rather than enlarging his claim.
