This is what i got:
Str increases hit points by 1 for every stat gained and boosts melee and unarmed damage.
Agi increases attack speed
con increases hit points by 2 for every stat gained.
Cha does nothing yet
Int supports stealth in some way (does it help exploration too?)

Int also plays a part in how successful you are with opportunity knocks.

I'm not entirely certain, but I don't think any of them do anything particularly non-intuitive.

Strength gives you more damage to hit in non-missile combat (read: melee and unarmed) and +1 Max HP per point.
Constitution gives you +2 MHP per point.
Agility has something to do with combat that, unless I'm mistaken, has not been specified.
Perception currently affects Exploration, somehow, thus it is good for people who plan to use the Ranging skill. It will also affect marksmanship like Strength does... Sometime. So if you want to be an archer, make sure to get this up.
Intelligence affects the success chance of the combat ability Opportunity Knocks and is related to Stealth just as Perception is related to Exploration. Thus, it is the province of thieves.
Charisma is currently the only completely useless stat, as it often is. It's supposed to be used to increase the effect of certain 'party attacks', whatever those wind up being.

I may be wrong on some of this. And apparently repeating some of what sami said.

I do think i recall i think it was jorb, saying agility doesn't effect running speed but instead effects attack speed.

He said it affects combat skill - He never specified if it increases attack rate or if it affects the ability to get initiative more, or if it affects the damage of skills.

Agility DOES effect combat speed. when i went from 18-40+ agility i noticed the difference.. its not overpowering but its there.. and its certainly noticable if you power-stat-gain your agility.

...or im going crazy.

It's also possible it effects stamina use. But i can't really say i noticed any change in stamina use as i upgraded my agi.
