Where's the combat explanation?

Postby kobnach » Sun Jun 21, 2009 1:48 am

I know I've seen a thread, but searching for combat gets the term excluded as too common.

I've been planning to write a sticky thread to explain the basics of the combat system for quite some time now, but I've never really gotten around to it.

That's funny, because I could swear I at least saw an explanation of the combat maneuvers.

Yes, there is a sticky explaining each of the maneuvers, but the one I was planning on writing would be about the basic variables of the combat system; such as the chances of blocking, the effects of intensity and balance, the chances of getting initiative &c.

Right. That would definitely be a good thing. And I don't know how I kept missing the existing sticky.

I'm also hoping the person writing the unofficial game guide will tackle this - in particular, explanations of things like the balance/scales on my screen when getting my a** kicked, and what it meant ;-) Also why there are combat maneuvers that aren't on the attack menu, but appear when I'm actually fighting - yet somehow aren't the same each time. (In other words, I need the newbie version, that explains what the stuff on my screen means, then the details.) All I do now is pick a maneuver that works with whatever weapon I have, and auto-repeats, put that on the hot key bar, use it once, and then watch for damage to me - and run round an obstacle if I start bleeding. This is not exactly optimal.. but it's better than where I was before the sticky went up, and I found out there were two types of recipes in the attack menu ;-))
