Postby maze » Sat Mar 27, 2010 8:03 am

Story alert->
SO ya i was geting piss at boars for killing me, im a noob. i set up a fence to keep them out...but one spawned inside my fence X>x

SO i ran to the water to not die, ported to my fire (thank god porting removes aggro) grab my bow and arrows from my buckets, run back into the water and try to snipe the dang thing....untill i notice 4 arrows later and failed attemps at or w/e that thing is, mini game i think. did no dmg to the boar and i was still in the water pissing myself.

REAL QUESTION TIME-->
SO YA as title says what up with that thing, is it a mini game that i need to hold a botton or do i just shoot rapidly, fake it till you make it sorta thing, and (fail trying to) kill it?

Where i have looked --->
-Checked website search
-checked wiki archer skill
-checked google for walkthrows
-checked youtube (useless)
-checked my santiy (it failed too)

My thanks to you ---->
Thanks for reading and doing a palm to your face, ill just sit here like a contemp noob waiting for the game to log on to find out i died again and now only have 1/30/100 hp....

need first aid i guess?

That is your aim meter. The higher it gets the better your chances of hitting the target. It will get higher faster when you have a lot of Marksmanship. Mine is 45 and it still takes some time to get full with a Q20 bow. I think Perception also plays a role in your aiming ability, not sure though.

Your meter will rise very slowly if you have low marksmanship. You probably want to start with the sling since it's 2x easier to aim with.

Wander through a swamp and load up on leeches. (They will equip themselves to any free equipment slots.) That will get you healing but will sap stamina. If you have around 20-25 Exploration and 15-20 Perception you can scout around grass areas to find clover, which you can then use on (pick it up in your inventory and right click on) a sheep for wool, make a loom and make guaze. Which can then be used (the same way as the clover) on yourself to treat your hhp at a slow (but faster than leeches) rate. (Although I have not been able to find sheep for a while myself. Elusive little critters.) Leeches are the way to go if you don't have the skills to:

A) Find clover
B) Make a Loom
C) Perform First-Aid

Archery

jorb wrote:Archery: Choose the "Shoot" action from attacks, and left click a target. You will get a meter determining the accuracy of your shot. The accuracy will tick up the longer you stand aiming at the target. You will lose some of your aim if you, or the target moves. The further away the target is, the harder it will be to hit. You can move while aiming by using ctrl+leftclick.

Effective marksmanship skill is determined by the lowest value of your :
1) Weapon, factored by its IEMM (Intrinsic Effective Marksmanship Modifier)
2) Ammunition, factored by its IEMM, and
3) Marksmanship skill.

Given that the bow and arrows have IEMM 2.0, if you have marksmanship 35, a q70 bow (i.e. effective marksmanship 140) and q 45 arrows (i.e. EM 90), you will aim with an effective skill of 35. If you have marksmanship 35, arrows Q 7 (i.e. EM 14) and a bow of Q 34 (i.e. EM 68), you will have an effective marksmanship skill of 14. The higher your marksmanship, the easier it is to aim. To put it in words, the equipment often supports you into higher ranges of Marksmanship than it has quality.

Weapons have an intrinsic difficulty level. Some weapons are harder to use than others. Using the standard woodbow as a reference point, the sling is twice as easy to aim with, and the ranger's bow thrice as hard. If you feel that you aim well with a woodbow, you will then need thrice the effective marksmanship value to hit equally well with a ranger's bow.

Ranger's Bow, Q10: 300 damage, IEMM 3.
Woodbow, Q10: 75 damage, IEMM 2.
Sling, Q10: 60 damage, IEMM 2.

Bone Arrow, Q10: 20 damage, IEMM 2.
Stone Arrow, Q10: 10 damage, IEMM 2.
Stones, Q10: 0 damage, no IEMM (i.e. their quality do not matter).

The archery meter tells you your percent chance to hit the target. To fire the shot, left-click anywhere. To cancel a drawn shot, right-click anywhere. Again, you can move while aiming by using ctrl+leftclick (Strafing ftw!).

When you fire, and hit, damage will be calculated as follows. The damage of the weapon and the damage of the projectile are added to form the maximum damage in a range, within which a random damage is chosen. The minimum damage is calculated from your own perception, the target's agility and the maximum damage as (0.5 * (PERC / AGIL) * MAX-DAMAGE). Watch it, foxes have high agility.

example:
1) Weapon, Q30 sling x IEMM 2 = 60
2) Ammunition, Q10 stones >>> no IEMM!
3) Marksmanship skill = 50

>>> lowest value: 50 = aiming speed!

hope that helps...

well... archery is still just utterly broken imo. The "archer mini game" is actually the "archer exploiting game", because you'll never kill anything otherwise.

1) To kill regular animals, trap them by building construction signs around them, so they can't run. Then, wait ~forever till your aiming meter fills up. Rinse, repeat. If they get healed, go somewhere else and try again.
2) When attacked by boars, don't fight them, just run away. Drink water to keep your stamina up.
3) To kill bears, use a more elaborate AI exploit.

You should have at least 20 marksmanship & perception and at least Q10 bow/sling.

Very true, unfortunately. It is the safest way to hunt though.

A few tips.

Don't waste ammo on chickens/rabbits. Just pick them up and snap, butcher, roast.

Foxes are the easiest aggressive animal. Just fence them up. Then aim, shoot, repeat.

If hunting boars. Aggro, run to water, find a somewhat large shallow area, aim, shoot, repeat. After you do enough damage he will run, chase him. Hopefully he will run into something and stop. If not, un-aggro, go around him and scare him back to the water. If you wait too long after un-aggro he will attack agressively again.

Bears are actually easier to do but MUCH MUCH more dangerous. And require a boat and a buddy. There is a thread somewhere describing the technique. Although we've done it differently.

Deer, "Cows" and "Sheep" have to have the entire heard boxed in. Deer need to have one separated so he won't be healed by the rest. He will heal himself though. But if you can out damage his heals, (he heals for 100 points) you got it made.

When going hunting make sure you have plenty of arrows. Chances are you will miss some/ lose some for getting aggro.

The small icon next to the animals "battle picture" is his combat state, RED (with cross swords) means he wants to kill you. GREEN (with branch-over-sword) means he wants to flee. (Doesn't always mean he will) BLUE (with sword-over-branch) means you want to flee. You will have to click on the button to flee/un-aggro when the animal is fleeing. Most aggressive animals will not let you flee if you are in RED mode when you activate flee.(Except rats for some reason. You just have to go far enough away to lose aggro)
