1) To kill regular animals, trap them by building construction signs around them, so they can't run. Then, wait ~forever till your aiming meter fills up. Rinse, repeat. If they get healed, go somewhere else and try again.
2) When attacked by boars, don't fight them, just run away. Drink water to keep your stamina up.
3) To kill bears, use a more elaborate AI exploit.
You should have at least 20 marksmanship & perception and at least Q10 bow/sling.
Very true, unfortunately. It is the safest way to hunt though.
A few tips.
Don't waste ammo on chickens/rabbits. Just pick them up and snap, butcher, roast.
Foxes are the easiest aggressive animal. Just fence them up. Then aim, shoot, repeat.
If hunting boars. Aggro, run to water, find a somewhat large shallow area, aim, shoot, repeat. After you do enough damage he will run, chase him. Hopefully he will run into something and stop. If not, un-aggro, go around him and scare him back to the water. If you wait too long after un-aggro he will attack agressively again.
Bears are actually easier to do but MUCH MUCH more dangerous. And require a boat and a buddy. There is a thread somewhere describing the technique. Although we've done it differently.
Deer, "Cows" and "Sheep" have to have the entire heard boxed in. Deer need to have one separated so he won't be healed by the rest. He will heal himself though. But if you can out damage his heals, (he heals for 100 points) you got it made.
When going hunting make sure you have plenty of arrows. Chances are you will miss some/ lose some for getting aggro.
The small icon next to the animals "battle picture" is his combat state, RED (with cross swords) means he wants to kill you. GREEN (with branch-over-sword) means he wants to flee. (Doesn't always mean he will) BLUE (with sword-over-branch) means you want to flee. You will have to click on the button to flee/un-aggro when the animal is fleeing. Most aggressive animals will not let you flee if you are in RED mode when you activate flee.(Except rats for some reason. You just have to go far enough away to lose aggro)
