How do I know where-in-the-world I am?

Postby tarromarro » Wed Mar 31, 2010 4:57 pm

Okay, I played around a bit, wandered around a bit, looked around a bit, but all I've found are scattered camps and miles and miles of fir forests. I cant seem to find a single apple tree or an established village anywhere!! Is there some kind of method to approximately guess where you are located?

Not unless you can find yourself on a user-made map. There's a thread floating around somewhere.
Come back two hours earlier.

A good one is to make a big village yourself, if your looking for civilization.

Or just take up Cartography

Apple trees can be found on grassland and in broadleaf forests - unless someone hacked all of them down, that is. Some people seem to find it funny to just hack down every tree in the world.

When I'm clearcutting.. I leave important trees... Oaks for branches, Apples, mulberry, hazelnuts for food. I leave some of the bough trees also.. but normally they go.. so I guess I hit willows mainly as they no purpose yet :P

If you haven't gotten Wheelmaking and made yourself a boat (assuming you have found a river), you should. This will allow you to explore much more of the world faster.

Unfortunately, each of the 25+ supergrids have a closed river system, which limits easy exploration. But even so, you should be able to find plenty of resources and maybe even some settlements and villages.

From what I have read, the developers have actually removed the ability see meaningful coordinates for locations in the world. Part of the charm of the game the need to explore and map (by hand or with Cartography).
