... unlimited?

You mine the 'black' wall of the cellar-like space of the mine and that square will turn into a floor tile with a tin ore on it. As long as you mine it will expand, making you mine bigger and bigger. The limit would be when it's so long and time consuming and torch-consuming that you do not even want to mine anymore.

there is a finite amount ore that you can mine but yeah you'll probably never actually mine it all

sabinati have you actually seen the end of a mine? I personaly saw an 150 tiles long mine shaft with maybe 30 more tiles before it to the ladder and it was not the end. That's at least 130k ore give or take a few. That's a loooot of ore.

I've mined to the end of a mine. I have no idea how many tiles it was however, as I never counted.

At one point we had a town with four miners and we each got one direction in the mine. I just kept going straight until I hit the wall and only then widened the tunnel.

I have never seen a played out mine but I'm pretty sure you could reach the wall in the mine in the north side of the Forest of Hopes on the first map.

I dunno if mines sizes increased for the second world or something, but in the first world the Bottleneckers (who had probably been mining for the entirety of the three or so months that was) had managed to deplete or come close enough to depleting our first mine that we built another one. (This was, of course, when you could build a mine anywhere). They're definitely not infinite but it would take a lot of mining to deplete one.

I've heard from a good source that mines have indeed increased in size for the second and by extension the third world.
