The problem is that there IS no map. The one you found is probably 1/35th the size of the current world and is of the old world's center anyway.

If you have any friends in game party with them to find out what direction they are. Sometimes you can get an idea that way.

Look for villages (they show up on the minimap as ominous blood red goat skull things) If you try to interact with anything on village territory you will get a message like "That belongs to Marwencol" so then you will know the village name and can ask on forum in anyone knows where it is. Also read runestones placed by the water and by settlements. They can give you the names of farms and lakes and rivers and again you can ask on forum.

You can also try traveling and traveling and traveling in one random direction until you reach an invisible wall. This will be the map's edge and then you will know that you are as far east or west or south or north as it is possible to go.

You can also try leaving runestones either at your own settlement or a visible place others will stumble on it: "pm ricky who would like to trade silkmoths for seeds" (assuming you have been catching silkmoths and feel you can supply them in return for seeds) This gives your neighbours who may be on at other times a way to introduce themselves to you.

Ahem, that hobo has probably not quit. He is asleep in his own little bed where he logged off and will perhaps log in again.

Right click him. If the option "sleep' comes up and he vanishes he was you and the tenancy of the house has devolved upon you. If he continues sleeping peacefully, be aware that when his term paper is finally handed in you may have an irate original householder consulting the rentalsman on the eviction of squatters. (You) ---hyperbole: there is no rentalsman in game--

If your exploration is high enough you will see four-leaf clovers. If you right click one onto a mouflon the clover will disappear and if you right click the mouflon again the option "shear" will come up. Do roughly the same to an aurochsen while holding an empty bucket and you get the option to milk it. Tame it using quell the beast and discover it was a bull and you get to feel real queasy about just what ended up in your bucket.

Do NOT attack a mouflon or an aurochsen on foot when they are not all safely penned up. They come in herds. They counter attack in herds.

Once you have a boat and at least a q10 sling and at least a 10 in marksmanship you can attack them from the water. It is slow but will give you meat and bones and skins.

There are only two basic hairstyles: female and male. To go redhead you need to die and create a new character who is female this time. To go mouse brown you need to die and create a new character who is male this time. To go bald create a bear cape and sit down in a chair or in a boat. Everything else is just headgear and can be found under hats or armor or something.

Well, he may have quit, he may be back. It is always possible that he has been logging on when you are not logged on if he is in a different time zone than you. Try leaving a runestone for him at his/your own front door?

I learned the hard way too and got the hiccups from laughing so hard when a previously defenseless creature that used to wander off bleating plaintively when belted it suddenly turned into one of a perfect daisy shape wheel of aggressive monsters with my unconscious form at the center.

I'm afraid the exploration for clover is fairly high. I can't find a definitive answer but I would think at least twenty.

As for buying yeomanry: Do you have anything of value that might be a nuisance to replace? If you have stuff to protect than yeomanry is useful. If not you can hold off on it while you work on other stuff for a bit. You might make sure you have a dream catcher and three dreams and some bones stockpiled should you decided abruptly that your claim is going up NOW.

That's a good sign!

Of course, it is always possible that someone with a sense of humor played a prank on your poor "hobo" but I would feel it morally okay at this point to put a claim up.

There is no way to remove him if he is sleeping in a house. If he is outside his bed will decay in time and then he will go invisible.
