I find myself making this world mine, but there are others that stand in my way with there land. How would I eliminate there claim? Or maybe "buy" that land?

You can't. You can't destroy another person's claim, and I highly doubt they would just sell their land to you.

You can however set up a village idol next to their claim, wait for enough auth and then remove it. Dunno how well this works with the new village system.

it takes much more auth points, then it used to. a 35*35 claim requires about 300k auth points. so its about 250 auth points per tile.
