Bee Hives

So I was given some wheat seeds and a beehive by a neighbor today. However I'm not quite sure how to use the hive. I know what it does, but according to what I've read it's supposed to show me the area it covers, however it doesn't. Does it cover a certain square area of spaces? If so, how big is it?

A beehive covers a circle with a diameter of 30 squares.

You can see the coverage in pale green when you try to build a beehive.

The radius is about 10-15 squares all round. Just going by memory here, so that's probably not very accurate. It's a pretty wide area though, for such a small thing.

Edit: Scratch that, it's more like 6-7 squares. Still not bad, though.
