Differences between unarmed and melee combat

Postby steveo28 » Sun Apr 11, 2010 5:12 pm

Hey guys, I was just wondering what the difference in terms of damage was between the 2 skills. Will someone with equal skills in both do the same damage with either? Or is unarmed gimped in comparison to sword n board?

Sword will deal more damage against an unarmred or lightly armored opponent (leather). Unarmed will probably deal more damage against particularly heavily armored enemies (metal armor) due to the fact that unarmed has a fraction of their damage bypass soak and deflect armor.
If you keep focusing on the shadow behind, you will not see the light in front of you.

Are boars and bears heavily armored mobs?

All animals are considered unarmored.

Awww, bummer. Well then I guess my next question is whether or not unarmed is viable for killing mobs such as boars and bears, or if I should stop working on that and start working on getting me some weapons.

You may want to box foxes and deers inside with you so they won't be able to run after you damage them. Boars are more likely going to aggro you before you can fully box them in. Bears have a bug that will cause them to return to you after running a certain distant. Aurochs and Mouflons should not be melee'ed due to the fact that you will be facing the entire herd.
