Silkmoths

Postby Heater » Mon Apr 12, 2010 1:43 am

1. How do I extend a silkmoth's life?

2. Is there an easier way to catch a silkmoth than by clicking on it? They are extremely hard to click on, and their fast movement speed is also troublesome to deal with.

3. When catching a pair of silkmoths, is there some way to tell if one is male or female before catching it?

4. What is the native soil of a Mulberry Tree?

5. How many cocoons should I turn into silk, and how many should I keep alive for the next generation?

6. Does server downtime count towards a silkmoth's life?

7. Is there a way to keep silkmoths alive indefinitely at a stage in their growth without constant maintenance?

8. Can silkmoths fly over water?

9. An unrelated question, but does logging out on a boat kill me or can I respawn back on the boat?

Not even by releasing it and catching it once every few hours?

You don't.

Once you have caught a breeding pair you can raise your own silkmoths. Other than that, no, there is'nt exactly an easy way to catch them. They really aren't that hard to catch in my opinion though...

No.

Heater wrote:4. What is the native soil of a Mulberry Tree?

Broadleaf Forest.

Heater wrote:5. How many cocoons should I turn into silk, and how many should I keep alive for the next generation?

However many you want. This depends greatly on how much time you can afford for the upkeep of your silk production, the how many herbalists table you have at your disposal and so on. Just try out different amounts until you find the right ratio for yourself.

Heater wrote:6. Does server downtime count towards a silkmoth's life?

I don't think so.

Heater wrote:7. Is there a way to keep silkmoths alive indefinitely at a stage in their growth without constant maintenance? ?

Maybe in their egg form. Not sure about that though.

Heater wrote:8. Can silkmoths fly over water?

I doubt it. Most of the silkmoths I saw treated water like a border.

You will respawn back on the boat (at least I did).

2. I tend to put my mouse in front of the moth and click fast hoping for a hit -- if you see it stop or reverse, that is a good time to try.
5. I have heard complaints of getting 5 of one sex with none of the other which is possible 1 out of 64 times. So the question becomes do you want to have large generations to prevent this or keep a few eggs aside every few generations in case things to wrong (I haven't made up my mind about this yet, myself).

8. I have seen them fly over cliffs and water (at least a few tiles).
9. I haven't had any trouble yet logging out in a boat (many times).

As far as I can tell, in their "egg-form" they can be stored forever, or at least VERY long.
