A lot of questions (sorry)

Postby Heater » Mon Apr 12, 2010 5:45 am

Which grows faster, Flax or Hemp? Also, is there a table of time values for growing different crops?

How many tiles does a Bee Hive cover in a 24-hour period? How much faster do plants grow when pollinated?

When the wiki refers to "in-game hours", is it talking about the day/night system that the game uses, or do they mean the time literally spent in-game? What is the difference between this and real-life hours?

Also, how should I go about searching for silkmoths so that I can find them uickest? It would particularly help if I knew where they spawn or hang out most often. The wiki says grassland, but so far all of the silkmoths I've seen (pre-Sericulture) were in forests.

Is it a good idea to plant Mulberry trees all over my land if I plan to grow silkworms? Is four leaves per worm particularly voracious enough to warrant this?

How do I track scents? I had a fresh alt account stomp all over my land without authorization, but I couldn't catch anything even after toggling on tracking. Or do I have to walk around on my land some more before I can find them?

What marksmanship level/quality of sling do I need to kill foxes and boars? What about bears? Or should I move on to bow/arrows? Or should I just skip the whole thing and just fight animals in melee combat?

What are the chances that I can find an unclaimed mine in my vicinity, assuming that I have Rustroot (I don't, but I will try to get my levels up if possible).

If chickens/cocks in a Chicken Coop run out of feed, do they starve and die? Does this happen to chickens/cocks in cupboards too? Are there any uses for cocks other than for producing fertile eggs and meat/feathers/bones?

Are there any advantages to having a Sturdy Bed over a Spruce Bough Bed?

Am I doing something wrong if I am continuously being KOed by ants and my fully-charged punch barely dents their defense?

Do large stones ever disappear if chipped enough?

Why did my Spinning Wheel disappear in about two hours? Nothing else around my area seemed to decay.

Besides metal, what are the most valuable commodities among players?

Sorry if it seems like I'm posting too many questions and topics, but the wiki isn't really too helpful on things, especially when it gives just the basic information and none of the details. The fact that I'm relatively new to this game doesn't help much either :|

Also, the wiki claims that I need 200 perception*exploration to find four-leaf clovers, but I just found one at 165.

Flax grows slightly faster I believe.

When you go to construct the beehive it shows the radius that it will cover.

In game hours refers to the 20 minute hours of the game.

Silkmoths seem to generate just about anywhere but are easiest to find and catch near the water since they can't fly over water and have to turn around there. It still takes quite a bit of luck. I find them most often at twilight, and sometimes at night, rarely in daylight.

It is a good idea to grow mulberry trees but spread them out and hide them in case you get griefed. One tree supplies 70 leaves (incredible!) so you might be okay with only about three or four depending on the size of your silk production. But if you can grow high q mulberry trees you might even be able to sell leaves so why not try planting lots? It is good lp.

There is a luck roll where your exploration perception is rolled against the invader's stealth for you to see scents. Of course you also have to toggle it on. If you don't see anything try going into a house and coming out again in order to get a re-roll. If there is no house available try walking a few screens away. Tresspassing scents decay and vanish pretty quickly so if it was yesterday that your alt did his invasion the scents might also be gone perhaps?

If your sling is q10 or better and your marksman ship is 20 you can kill anything but a deer with patience. And possibly ants. This assumes they can't clobber you, so you are in a boat or they are in an inclosure.

The chances of finding a mine depends on your location. If for example you are a few tiles away from Sodom I would think your chances fairly poor. However if there are no visible mines or major experienced player settlements near you it is worth a shot. If you are on a deserted grid or a new grid you have a fairly good chance of finding one, especially if you are in a big landmass not near water. In any case the lp from making elixer and prospecting is very good. So once you start finding rustroot you might as well convert it into lp, right?

Chickens, chicks and cocks can all starve no matter where you put them. There is no other use for a rooster than to fertilize eggs.

A sturdy bed repairs travel fatigue faster.

To kill ants you might need better armour.

Large natural boulders only disappear when made into querns or runestones.

Your spinning wheel took that one unfortunate decay hit necessary to destroy it completely.

Silk is another valuable commodity and so are cave bulbs. If you find rustroot you can find cave bulbs (in caves). Check the Sodom trading thread to see what they want to buy to get an idea of what might be valuable.

Please edit the wiki! You now know more about finding four leaf clovers than the person who made the earlier entry.

Also, how should I go about searching for silkmoths so that I can find them quickest? I lost a male silkmoth due to rollback, and found three females after searching for an hour and a half - all without partners . It would particularly help if I knew where they spawn or hang out most often. The wiki says grassland, but so far all of the silkmoths I've seen (pre-Sericulture) were in forests.

Just going to add to that, if you aren't dropping the ants' defense you need more unarmed skill. Armor doesn't help much because most of their damage seems to penetrate armor anyways. Some basic leather armor and 10-20 unarmed skill and you should be able to take out ants with no troubles.
