Taking Suggestions

Postby stryfe1986 » Mon Apr 12, 2010 11:56 pm

So i was traveling and in my travels i found a Bow and arrows.

I haven't increased the level or Proficiency of MM because well I'm not sure why i haven't yet but the question here is, I have been unable to kill ants with UA, but I have a bow now and some arrows should i drop unarmed and increase MM only or should I increase MM and Survival, or UA and Survival? What do you all suggest? I really want to kill boars, I am tired of those damn things camping me over and over. I know Boars could take a while before i can kill them, considering my current stats, what should i increase to what before i can kill boars or ants or even deer.

Stats:

Str - 11
Agi - 12
Int - 16
Con - 10
Per - 10
Cha - 10
Dex - 15
Psy - 10

Skills:

UA - 4
MC - 1
MM - 1
Exp - 20
Stlth - 1
Sew - 1
Smith - 1
Carp - 1
Cook - 1
Farm - 1
Surv - 5

P.S thanks!

Bows are quite hard to use. You need quite a bit more Marksmanship. Try making a sling first. Its easier to aim with. Or you could just box the animal in, preferably so it can't move so you can take your time with aiming and kill it gradually.

I'm with Blxz: start with a sling and marksmanship. With Marksmanship or any ranged weapon you either trap the animal before you attack it, or you hunt it from a boat. This means you don't get wounded and don't have to invest in armor and the astronomical amount of food that restore soft hit points can cost. However, I'd say basically right now your stats are just too low to kill anything but rabbits and chickens. Can you raise your survival to 10 so that you can find q10 fibres? You actually need a ten in survival to make a q10 sling, not just the five fibres so trading for them won't do, although trading for a pre-made sling would also work. Then if you can raise your marksmanship to ten you will be up to handling the next level of quarry, which is foxes.

The trick with foxes is to enclose them in unbuilt fires and then to stand one tile away from the unbuilt fires as they can jump and snap and wound you through the enclosure if you are too close, even though they can't get away. Load up with stones and start whaling away at the critter until it is dead. The first few will take awhile but the lp is good and can be put into raising your marksmanship a little higher.

If you have a boat there is no reason you can't try to get a boar. Once your marksman ship and your damage is high they will run away on you after you wound them but in the early stages where you are doing 7 and 10 points of damage they just stand there and take it.

Your biggest problem will be running out of stones. You won't be able to land to chip some more as if you do the beast will attack you, so you have to try to set it up so that you have access to a boulder as nearly opposite the boar as you can on the far side of a river. If you are gone too long reloading the aggro will drop which means the boar will possibly wander off but you also won't be able to get the lp you already might have earned through wounding it. And if the boar ko's you the same thing happens.

Once your marksman ship is at 20 you will be able to take out bears but deer require doing more than 100 points of damage per hit, so they are a lot more difficult. 20 in marksman ship is less of an investment than you would have to make if you were going with unarmed or melee combat. It's the fastest and cheapest way to go.

Oh, perception is the other stat that improves your ranged results so if you have a chance to eat carrots or plaice go for it. That can help too.

That's right. You don't need archery to use the sling.

If in your craft>tools>ranged weapons menu you have the option to build a sling that also means you will be able to use it.
