Get meat like boar.

Postby Jfloyd » Thu Jun 25, 2009 8:04 pm

I've started a new character, and I've realized, I have no way to get any boar to raise my strength, so how does one go about killing a boar with low str and stats?
(I don't want to trade, for I have nothing to trade, and I want to remain hidden.)

learn how to hunt would be the best bet I think... train up some archery and get ureself some boar. they spawn in forests only asfar as I know,

be warned tough They're not the easiest of pray.

you might be better off upping other stats before str. just dont go to high with those stats

Why not?
But yeah i do agree. Try to balance your stats. Don't eat bear sausages till you got over 50 str.

Well, I'm trying to keep my stats balanced, and all are fine except strength

Don't be so opposed to trading, as it's your only realistic chance of getting boar meat early in the game. And don't think you have nothing to trade - mining can get you a lot of dough in short time. I think you can sell cast for wrought at Laketown, but don't take my word on that. Pretty much every hunter will sell you boar for wrought.

You can't keep them balanced, at least not for the first 10 or so, without (1) gifts (2) trade (3) living on apples will you create equipment and gain learning points (4) stealing from others (in or out of claims).

Assuming you are doing none of those, and pursuing a strategy of balancing food choices as quickly as possible, I'd expect to see you get the first 5-10 points of int, con, agi, cha, per, and str in approximately that order.

The only 'game' a newb can catch are rabbits and fish, with rabbits in short supply. It takes time to accumulate stock of wheat, grape, and carrot plants. (I excluded theft above, including harvesting fields that are obviously part of someone's homestead but outside their claim.) It takes time to get melee or archery up to the point where you can kill cows and sheep, never mind foxes. And even when you can handle level 1 foxes, level 1 deer and boar will still hand you your head. Add to this the lack of tools - which take time and sometimes metal to produce - and you've got a problem.

Yeah you can trade iron for wrought in Laketown, but i would not recommend that. Mainly for the exchange ratio (8:1) but also because if you come live with us we can help with most stuff you need. We can't directly supply you with boar meat, but we can provide you with a place to earn lp. Mainly by harvesting or mining (with tea).

When i first started i grinded on harvesting flax i had growing next to my cabin. (think they give 10lp..) The real way to get skills is to find a clay pond and make tons of tea pots.
Building your own settlement helps too i guess. :D

I don't have a mine anywhere near me, and I'm mostly nature. So mining is out of the option.

I heard clayshire doesn't mind the use of their mine.

What is a clay pond?

Normally, making clay wrecks the landscape, and even if you fix it, forest has become grassland. Other than that it's a great way for a beginner to get LP.

Is a clay pond possibly some type of place I haven't found, where one can repeatedly mine clay without changing the terrain? Or is it just a metaphor for an area people have messed up with digging clay?
