Which Clue is Which?

Postby kobnach » Fri Jun 26, 2009 1:49 am

What happens if several people snoop a container and then one robs it? Perhaps several hours pass between visits, and the owner knows which one (sequentially) did the actual theft. Let's say the owner logged on between each visit and checked their stuff. Let's farther say that they have ranging skill, routinely turn tracking on, and have higher tracking ability than any of the visitors' concealment ability.

Is there any way for the owner to determine which clue was left during the appropriate time period? Can they, for example, clean up the earlier evidence once they've verified nothing was stolen? Can they determine which clue was left most recently? Or are they doomed to run off and murder everyone who has touched their basket/smelter/chest, just to get the bastard who actually robbed them?

I believe that there is no such method, and I think this is an important deficiency in the relevant game mechanics - not as important as some of the other problems, but still unpleasant.

I also suggest that people think twice before snooping, as even ancient snooping clues may leave them vulnerable to retaliation when something valuable is finally stolen.

It is indeed not possible, but I believe the proper solution to the problem is the fixing of containers, so that intruders do not leave theft scents if they haven't actually stolen anything.

Why would you murder someone you don't even suspect of theft anyway? You can't just reply on scents like that.
The ones who see things differently.

You can praise them, disagree with them, quote them, disbelieve them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can't do is ignore them.
And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius.
