Stay alive?

Postby RPGenie » Sat Apr 17, 2010 11:28 pm

I know that the greatest and the finest have already died, but I'm not quite ready to join them on the other side. I'd like to avoid this possible outcome, so to this end, I'd like to ask a few questions.

Boats.

Fishing's a great way to grab some food without much hassle, but is it possible to be boarded or shot at by pirates while fishing out on the bounding main? Obviously you can be attacked while fishing on ground at the shoreline, but I'm asking about when I'm on a boat.

I'd also like to know this because if it gives some relative safe haven, it'd be a great way to meet and talk to people without having to worry about a bay12 getting crushed on my head for just saying hi.

Hearthfires.

Since I'm living the hermetic lifestyle right now, what with people I know off playing other games now and me playing this when the mood strikes me, I imagine that I may have a battering ram or somesuch tearing down my walls when I get enough worth raiding over.

Now normally, I'd just join up with a village, but with New Brodgar being my erm... past experience... I think I'd rather just leave to my own cunning to survive.

Regardless, such is my choice, so my concern is, if someone smashes my gates and destroys my hearthfire while I'm offline, what happens when I choose login at hearthfire from the startup screen?

Alt abuse.

Is it considered an exploit to login on a 0 LP decoy to view if it's safe to login on my main? Bad form? Or accepted gameplay mechanic?

Thanks very much for any insights offered.

Well the alt things is something that i wouldnt really care if other people think that it should be taboo or whatever.

Its something that is needed how else can you safely scout out an area. Truth be told due to recent events i have a couple of alts that died in the line of duty doing just such a thing.

You are safe from being attacked with melee weapons on a boat, but you can still be shot by slings and bows.

If your hearth fire is destroyed my friend told me that you could either start in the wilderness, or start next to a specific village idol.

You can start by a village idol of the village you are part of.

If you are not part of village then it gives you a choice of some radom spot of wilderness or where you logged out.

Thanks very muchly for the information. I'm pretty sure since how fast a target's moving will reduce accuracy, as long as I stay moving when I see a bowman, I should be alright. Though I guess I can't rightly hearth back once a bowman's targetting myself. Hmmm.... Much to think about though, and this could make for interesting tactics with a bow and quiver.

The game removes you from combat with another player automatically after achieving a certain distance away, yes?

Yep, or if both of you turn off the combat yourselves by clicking the crossed swords in the circles beside your foe's icon.

Does the bug still exist where if they start to destroy your boat with you in it, and you sail away they continue to destroy it even after you are out of sight?

Of course this requires them to be actually able to touch the boat, so is not a huge hazard but is probably worth keeping in mind.
