Sorry I'm new to this, been mucking around for a couple of hung over hours and haven't seen anyone, where do all the cool kids hang out?

The game likes to throw people all over the world at birth, so just wander around until you see unusual things on the minimap, particularly huge gaps in the forest and big gray rectangles of pavement. These are telltale signs of civilization (or grinding), although they could easily be quite old.

Alternatively, check yon map thread and see if you can recognize any of the terrain. It might lead you to a village, or at least more popular areas.

The World is waste and there are only a about 400ppl online at one time, if you want to find someone, find a river and follow him, you will most likely stumble upon a boat and/or a settlement sooner or later, this means you`ve either found someone or something that allows really fast travel, which leads to the first.

unless he is in a mordor supergrid with no significant life around, in which case boating wont help cause all supergrids have land on the sides so no 2 are connected by water

Idk I guess if you really wanted to best way would be to contact people through the dwarves & thieves forum. Personally been playing for about a month and haven't even seen another living soul, just evidence of them being around at some point. Then again I have no idea where I am, seen a few "villages" but I think their abandoned biggest one I've seen was called codexia but I think it's just a ruin, and too far away to bother checking often.
