Traps and hunting and the such

Postby Lawbro » Sun Apr 25, 2010 4:26 am

So I've heard people trap all manner of animals with building sites and fire piles, but it's a pain to set them up around the animal, so I was wondering if I could use these as traps. How plausible would it be to honeycomb some of the surrounding forests and meadows with these in order to trap animals an kill them with a sling.

What's a good level to aim for in marksmanship if so, and how many hard hitpoints do deer have?

Erm, can't help you with the rest because you never specified what you were referring to with "these" and if there's a picture or something I dont see it.

anyway, deer have level*20 HP. So a level 8 deer would have 160 hp. I'd say at the least you'd want marksmanship 20 unless you wanna wait around for literally hours, and it'd probably be better to use a bow than a sling so you do more damage.

have you ever TRIED using a bow?

trust me, untill you get high marksmanship(and i mean like 90+) plus good q bones for arrows and a good q bow its better to stick to sling.
someone else can expain why.

with 80 in marksmanship i prefer to hunt with a sling, and if you talk about more damage it should be mentioned that perception is importend for minimum damage.

Also when im out hunting cows and sheep in grasslands i find a heard and instead of fencing them in i just fence myself around a rock so i alsway have rock access

And then all of them attack the fence made of fire piles

I'm sorry for not making myself clear enough. What I meant is to set up areas around my land in which I honeycomb with pile of wood building sites, in anticipation of the off chance something spawns inside of them, rather than building them after I see the animal. Hence, my word choice of trap. Do you think this would be plausible or a waste of grinding time?

And I can see why slings may be a better choice, they're cheap and efficient. Once I get to the point where I can maintain a bow, I'll use both. But, what is a good food that might raise perception that a newbie like me has access to? I've been dying to get some, since I've dumped a whole lot into exploration.

Check the wiki for ionformation on FEPS's. But carrots are a good start. If you have wheat and can cook and some butter then make carrot cake for an even better increase. But seriously, check the wiki for simple things like that. Will save you so much time and effort.

I set up a little pattern near my village with the stones we dug out of our basements..and yeah, animals spawn stuck in there all the time. So the OP's idea is totally plausible.
