How to increase game performance?

Despite how literally you might take it, lots of people use 'lag' and 'low framerate' interchangably. He might mean both, but there is a serious problem with this game taking up excessive resources and not utilizing them properly.

In my mind, lag will always mean the extra round-trip time between providing input and getting the appropriate output, outside of what would be an intrinsic part of the operation as such. That can certainly happen client-side, of course, but isn't what people usually mean when they say "lag".

well, he said it "runs pretty slow and lags alot", i had pretty bad client side lag when i was running it under ubuntu that i attributed to poor video driver implementation, as i had 0 problems with that before and after, when i was running windows 7. of course i experienced network lag, (rubberbanding, etc.) under both platforms, but the client lag i experienced was totally different.
