unarmed V melee

Postby joojoo1975 » Tue Apr 27, 2010 3:47 pm

saw in a post or three that unarmed is better against armor while melee works really good against unarmored peeps.

So we have peep A and peep B

they both have exact stats, armor. but A is decked out in Unarmed while B is decked out in Melee(give him the suitable Q of sword for his lvl)

who would win, would it be no contest.

At first I thought it would be unarmed, but after seeing the pics of peeps running around with B. axes and swords(the raiding pics in Congress assembled), i dunno any longer.

You require quite a bit of unarmed skill value to stand up against a decked out player. Unarmed has an armor bypassing component, and thus more of your damage might go through against an enemy wearing good high quality armor, however you're still better off using melee against the average armored opponent.

Unarmed comes out on top against an armored enemy in the long run but it's way later in the run.

so, from what i'm seeing is that end game unarmers are better off against endgame melees

but r we talking 200 UA or 400 UA etc?

I wanna do what Klaue did and punch out a bear. i dunno.

i been lvlin up UA and markenship. hence why i asked. well that and the recent pics i had seen.

No. Dodge uses 1x UA for defence, Shield uses 1.25x Melee. It means a lot.

Also, UA does a lot less damage. UA can barely equal melee in damage vs heavily armoured targets (only when the armour is relatively equal to the sword or better), vs anything else melee gets a clean win.

Basically, melee wins hands down in brute force. UA's advantage is that it's used by various maneuvres, which means it's better for fancy stuff that calls for a lot of init points (especially since you don't spend init on punches).

so, as long as you have a descent sword, then your kick butt in melee when going against an unarmed opponent.

and a sword is decent when we're talkin bout Quality. but u still need that precious metal stuff.

so far i got Ua at 30. which pisses me off if i spent all that points for nothin, but then i look at what u need to make a sword and then it dawns on me, well heck, how am i gonna get metal in the first place.

so many options :(

thanx peeps for the replies. and pls direct me to a good guide for newbs desciding on melee V unarmed. 9if there is one, that is)

I've won fights with melee people with unarmed combat before. I don't really know what quality armor and weapons they were using, nor what level of melee. In spars, even if my sparring partner or I have melee weapons, we usually end up in a boxing match. It'd be nice if you can grapple with your opponent and hinder their movements.

For PvE, melee no doubt. You pretty much have to one hit KO animals or they run away, unarmed can't easily do that.

For PvP, I dunno. If melee is better, it's a little less one sided then people are making it seem. I don't know the values of armor soak vs penetration, but strangle can be pretty damaging.

Oh, I'm not saying melee is just plain better. It has a bit more brute strength, but it also doesn't allow for much finesse.
