To start with raise your skills. If your carpentry and your saw quality are low you will end up with low quality boards. If your carpentry skill and your saw quality are high it will raise the quality of the boards you cut.

Higher quality saws do not cut faster but the boards that they make can be used to make higher q materials. If you use the boards to make an herbalist's bench the bench will be higher quality. And if you use high quality clay to make a tree planters pot, and fill it with high quality water and soil, and put it on that high q herbalist's bench the tree seedlings will make much higher q lumber.

Working with higher q products often gives you more lp than working with lower q. Higher q food gives you more fep to raise your attributes faster. And higher q armour gives you better protection than lower q armour.

The only thing I know of where higher q tools make a job go faster is when you have a higher q sling or bow. Then the process of aiming is much quicker.

BTW, to raise the quality of your basic bone saw and your basic stone axe use the best quality materials you can get and raise your survival.

If you are hunting and butchering the quality of your butchering tool (the axe) will raise the quality of the meat. Don't worry about raising your cooking skill until you are using an oven to bake. The survival skill is the one that affects how well you cook over a campfire.
