A few more pointers:
- don't build right next to the water, there's a lot of traffic there. Someone will spot your house and then come rob it. If you build inland a bit then fewer people will notice you. (do not leave clues of your presence next to the water either)
- build a pallisade
- build a claim

Getting your shit wrecked isn't fun, just learn from it and rebuild without making the same mistakes
