Unarmed vs stone axe

So this is, I hope, a simple question. Could a stone axe perform better then unarmed? My chances of finding metal are nil to zero to nothing.

It depends upon your Strength and Axe Quality. And obviously unarmed vs melee skill levels.
With decent strength boosts, unarmed will easily outperform a low quality axe.

what i think he means, if all things were considered equal, would a stone axe -W- the melee skill outperform unarmed.

i feel, unless i get some metal, that unarmed is my best bet.
