Balanced Diet for Barbarians

Postby kobnach » Fri Jul 03, 2009 6:09 pm

I've got a fairly simple question. Normally, the number of food event points needed to gain another stat point is equal to one's highest stat value. Thus if one has e.g. 30 str and 25 of everything else, one would need 30 FEPs to trigger a food event. If one then gets a bear amulet, one's strength now shows in green, as 35 - but one still appears to need only 30 FEPs. What happens if one's personal beliefs incline towards barbarism? Let's say one is full barbarian and so has 30% more strength. 30% of 30 is 9. I believe one will now see 44 str - in green - unless the 30% is also applied to the +5 from the amulet. What I want to know is whether one still needs only 30 FEP to raise some other stat - or whether one needs 39. I'd have thought it was 30, but I seem to be getting unexpected results in actual practice. (I'll count the FEPs more carefully next time I have a food event, but it seems to me my FEPs needed have increased, even though my maximum real stat has not. Perhaps it's just impatience though...)

I've just modified the client, so if you make sure to reload it, it will show the current number of FEPs and the trigger number as a tooltip.

I've also fixed the bug that made the black "hurt" FEPs from raw meat not show.

Oh that's nice.
The ones who see things differently.

You can praise them, disagree with them, quote them, disbelieve them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can't do is ignore them.
And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius.

Thank you.

This also gave me a surprising answer to the question of barbarism - I'm pretty sure I have 28 points con, +1 for my one level of barbarism - and it says I need 29 FEP. Time to turn off the barbarism as non-useful. (On the other hand, it confirms that gains from clothing don't count, or I'd need 32 FEP.)

Hmm, I think I found a bug. I got rid of my one point of barbarism. The extra str/con went away, and I now have 92/92/89 HP, somewhat confirming this. My stats show as 33/31/28/28/28/31, wearing a bear amulet and rabbit slippers, so my real stats are 28/28/28/28/28/28. Nonetheless, I now need _30_ FEP to get a food event. It should have gone back to 28. And it will be interesting to see what happens when I raise one of these stats to 29 in a few more minutes.

Could this be confirmed or denied? As I'm almost certain that I had at least 40 strength (with barbarism) when I ate my last bear salami. Which give 35 FEP in total. :?

Edit: Nevermind, I don't know what Kobnach is talking about. Barbarism/Civilization do not effect FEP requirements, I just checked.

Well, I'm still needing improbable amounts of FEP, not equal to my highest stat value, but in that general area.
