How do I shoot

Archery?! There is this board with the line but my hearthling is just shooting. Do i has to hold a button?

If I understand you correctly...you need the target to sit still while the archery meter charges up. It affects your accuracy, and the meter goes down whenever something moves (and it goes very slowly if the target is far away or your marksmanship is low).
