Better q survival will help you find better q nettles and taproot and is the limiting skill factor when building a sling.

It's worth noting that the quality of taproots and nettles is dependent on soil quality, which means the vast majority you pick up will be 10. The easiest way to get the quality up is to farm flax or hemp and use plant fibers to make your sling. Of course, that'll require a higher farming (the incrementable skill) and such, too.

The reason your aim bar doesn't go up, is probably because you have low Marksmanship skill.
