Just got my first chicken coop.. what do I feed them?

I just got my first chicken coop.. but am I suppose to feed my chicks? If so, what do I feed them? I tried giving them pumpkin seeds, seeing as I have an excess amount.. lol.. but that didn't work..

left click the seed then right click the coop itself, the seed will be placed inside, hold shift when clicking to place a seed in and keep one at the mouse so you can place a lot quickly

you can feed them most(all?) seeds and even pumpkin flesh, but carrots only in theyr seed form. also if its processed into fine, colorfull powder you can also feed them anime

i feed em carrots. they are ripe or seeds within a day and thus fastest to follow your farming q to feed q
