how do I make a milestone the end of the road so i can travel from there?

to be able to go back to the other end of the path i have to start from the next milestone on from the end

I'm fairly sure he's asking how to connect 2 milestones to make a complete path.

I'm also interested, I'm assuming you have to actually make 2 ends and then either right click one to extend it to that second one or something else.

You can return from the second-to-last mini-milestone, so one solution is to build 2 close together at the end of your trail.
But if you want it to be pretty and don't care about how much work it is, the best way is to build another starting milestone and terminate your path with that.
