Armour values explanation

I have bronze plate. It says 1700HP 184/184. What do these values mean?

If you get hit by an enemy during combat, he'll inflict damage. An armor with X/Y will first soak X points from that damage. Leftover damage will then be reduced for Y further points, which will be paid from the armor's HP reserve.
Your character in bronze plate will see all damage reduced by 184*2 points, at least until the plate finally breaks down.

And if every hit is less than 184 damage (thus not going over the soak) the armour will never break. Correct?

Be advised that unarmed can bypass armour.
