Carts

Can someone explain carts to me? In particular, I hear they carry 4 baskets, and move at a decent pace on (wide enough) roads, but are slower on other terrain. How fast can they go on roads? How slow must they go on other terrain? Are there terrains they cannot cross? How much of other things can they carry? (And yes, maybe I should try it, but I hate to use that much lumber for something that may prove to be useless.)

1. They carry 4 objects, but only those you can lift, such as tools, containers, and tree trunks. Corpses cannot be loaded into carts.
2. They move at run speed on stone roads, walk speed on dirt roads(Areas dug out for clay), and crawl speed anywhere else.
3. I don't think they can cross water or swamps, but I haven't tried.

I have put hearthling skellingtons in carts also, "Bring out your dead".

They can't cross water, or swamp.

You say you can't put corpses in a cart, but can you even LIFT corpses? I've tried in the past and it wouldn't let me until it was a skeleton.

I meant animal corpses, I haven't found a reason to hang on to player corpses/skeletons anyway.
