i hit the target and i see 2 numbers, a yellow number and then a red number. i pretty much get the red number. but whats the yellow number above it?

Yellow numbers are supposed to be HHP damage which doesn't mean much against wildlife. Note how your SHP bar is red and your HHP bar is yellow.
