Easiest food to find

Postby Saif_Mahlik » Tue May 18, 2010 5:07 pm

What is the easiest food to find as I am running out off all my bread... Also what are the first skills I should learn to start hunting and attacking animals.... thank you

Additionally where can I find chickens from? also when I try to build something it says "The construction site has no available building materials" wtf does that mean?

Additionally where can I find "String" from? How do I make it? (Remember I am just a newb show some screenshots and make it plaine and simple thanks)

Also where can i find bones from?

I cant se nothing apart from trees and stone... wtf?

Hi Saif, Welcome!

Read this: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=3196

The easiest foods to find are spindley taproot or rabbits.

To get spindley taproots get the skill foraging and then raise your exploration.

To catch rabbits get the skill hunting, have an empty 2 x 2 square in inventory, wait until the rabbit stops moving and you can easily click on him, left click him, when you stop moving because you are beside him right click him. He should be then live in your inventory and you can begin the messy process of wring his neck and butchering. Cook the meat over a fire before eating it or you can take damage.

This is also where you will get bones. The butchered rabbit will give you one piece of meat, a rabbit skin and a bone.

You need fairly high skills to successfully attack animals, but the easiest way for a noob is to make a sling with five pieces of string, enclose a fox in unbuilt fires so it can't attack you or run away, equip the sling, fill your inventory with stones and start peppering him with the rocks. Failing that get the skill Will to Power, and then unarmed combat, and go around punching chickens and rabbits. They will generally escape easily at first. This is not so much a hunting game as a survival game so you do not gain the capability to kill most animials without practice.

To find chickens you need to wander until you find other terrain than forest land. Grassland has wild chickens. Grassland is either bright green, yellow or pink, depending on the type. While wandering you may want to follow the edge of a body of water as if you get deep into water you can escape from attacking boars and bears this way. Chickens are caught the same way rabbits are and also require the hunting skill to pick up.

String for a beginner is either spindley taproot, nettles or plant fibre. (Later wool and silk can be used this way). You find both the nettles and the taproot with foraging, once your exploration has climbed high enough. I'm sorry I don't have screen shots, but try right clicking on anything you haven't seen before. Nettles are little green plants and spindly taproot looks like a brown root and each one is one tile in size. Plant fibres are harvested from flax or hemp, once you have the farming skill.

To put building materials into a construction site have the materials in your inventory. Click build and the thing you are trying to construct - I suggest picking fir boughs if you are in a decidous forest. When the little sign post comes up, hit shift click on the boughs in your construction and they will transfer from your inventory into the construction. One the sign post it will say something like 10/0/0. After you have transfered five boughs into the site it will say 5/5/0. It will then allow you to build and say 5/0/5.
