How do I play with a friend?

I started playing this game this weekend, and I've been enjoying it, but I would like to show it to a friend and play with them. How do I play with a specific person?

I know when I created, I was tossed out into the world randomly, and having found out that the game world is absolutely huge, it seems like we'd never be able to meet up and play together. How can I find my friend?

You set a hearth secret in the kin menu. You give your hearth secret to your friend. When your friend creates his character, he talks to the npc in the 'top' of the starting area, and types in the hearth secret. A staircase will appear, and if he uses it, he will start at your hearth fire. Just be careful to only give the secret to those you trust, as it can be abused.
