I must start by saying I have no experience with melee whatsoever, and havent fought foxes with UA for ages.
I think 30 melee is safe for fighting a lvl 5 (V) or something fox, or 20 if you understand the combat system yet.
Bottom line: You'd better get Marksman if you're new :)
Nah, kidding, its your choice,.. search around the forums for some good guides.

30ish sounds about right. Practice on ants first, to get a hang of the combat system.

Well... great, we already know that, sling is better, but we were asking about MELEE.

No No, I know. Im just saying :p But honestly I have NO xp with the combat system in teh game. I do know that you should grind a crap load into all the combat and sub-combat still and get all your maneuvers before going out on a fox. Like every one is saying take on the ants. Hell, you can even eat the ant soldiers for a STR buff dood.

Dash *26, knock of opportunity *4 (or 5 ? I forgot), valerous strike*1
Build up more IP if you can't kill it in one hit

(I would use jump though or call down the thunder from a boat :p)

Dash sucks. Use charge for init, slide for defence and flex for offence. If your skill is low you may have to use dash to get the 6 init it takes to use flex, but after that switch to charge.

If you are unsure of how much damage to the enemies' defense bar your skill level will make, then rather use sting as your first hit attempt, since valorious drain less enemy defense. You use valorious when you know you will be applying the hit that kills.

I find there are times when dash is not bad at all. Dash is slower than charge, but charge consumes your defense. Judging the situation, for me, determines which I will use and sometimes it is both.
