Combat System Questions

Greetings. Im new to Haven and Hearth, and I was a bit confused on something related to combat.

I've been investing my points in archery, but Im not sure how to do it. Whenever I try to shoot an arrow at something, a little target pops up with a black bar under it. Im confused as to what this means. Would someone care to elaborate?

The black bar means what are your chances to hit. It will fill up. You need a good amount of marksmanship to use a bow (around 60) and a sling you need it to be good quality (at the very least 20-30) and have 20-30 marksmanship.
