Ranged combat details

Postby blainemono » Thu May 27, 2010 7:48 pm

As far as I gathered, stuff affecting ranged combat is as follows: perception, marksmanship, weapon quality and ammo quality

weapon quality multiplies base weapon damage by sqrt(q/10), marksmanship makes aiming faster and perception affects minimum damage

now, what exactly does "affects minimum damage" mean? also, how does ammo quality work and is there anything that increases hit chance other than aim bar size?

Damage is randomly selected anywhere between minimum and maximum (inclusive) damage. Minimum is maximum * 0.5 * your perception / target's agility.

Ammo adds it's own damage to the weapons' damage. Stones do 0 (so their quality is irrelevant), stone arrows do 10 @ quality 10 and bone arrows do 20 @ q10. To get the damage for a specific quality level, multiply the damage @ q10 by the square root of (arrow's quality / 10). So, a q40 bone arrow will do 40 damage, q90 60, etc. Be advised that arrow (but not stone) quality also effects your aiming - whichever is lowest of your marksmanship, arrow's q * 2 or bow's q * 2 (bow's q * 3 for ranger bow) determines your aiming speed.

And the aim bar represents your chance to hit, so no, there's nothing else involved.

That's actually quite helpful pothjeh thanks!

Would you happen to know the Q10 values for the extra damage ranger bows (and bows too?) do?

Ranger's Bow, Q10: 300 damage, IEMM 3.
Woodbow, Q10: 75 damage, IEMM 2.
Sling, Q10: 60 damage, IEMM 2.

Bone Arrow, Q10: 20 damage, IEMM 2.
Stone Arrow, Q10: 10 damage, IEMM 2.
Stones, Q10: 0 damage, no IEMM (i.e. their quality do not matter).

It's all in the announcement.
