getting bear skins

is there an easy way to fight a bear with range, can you shot at him from the other side of a pallisade maybe, i'd prefer to get the lp for it, but mainly i just want to collect 2 skins, maybe another way to get 2 skins, i know by needed bear skins it's supposed to be a challenge, but maybe some notes to tip the battle in my favor(and no jokes on the scale system...)

You can
1)Shoot the bear from a boat, if you're weak he won't run
2)Trap him in runestones (a lot harder, but easier to do with two characters)
3)Trap him in a palisade door (close it as he walks into it)
4)Trap him in construction signs for brickwalls (not confirmed, someone's claimed to do this in IRC)

construction sings works very good when you hunt with 2+ people.

Also, if a bear is trapped, it will destroy lesser wooden items to if it has a path to you rendering most conventional construction sign traps useless.

signs won't work, and i'd be nervios traping a creature thats agressive in signs

i think what he's trying to say is the strength of a construction sign is in direct relation with the materials in it, when it being for a brick makes it stronger, or maybe adding more sticks to a fire signpost would yield similar results, it's a valid point that needs testing.... just not by me cause I'll die... horribly...

Just my 2 cents, I have found that bears can't break through palisade walls either, so if you manage to spot one outside and happen to have a source of stones near by, your in luck! Alternatively, if your quick enough, you can bring one back to your walled in area, get inside the gate and slam it shut in front of it, but DatOneGuy's recommendation of trapping it in the door is excellent for keeping ANY animal from being able to run away if you would "spook" it by dealing an appropriate amount of damage with your sling from a distance.

if you want to tra a bear: bears wont come through a single tiled opening. so you can do it like XOXOX

Bears don't break through palisades.

Protip: Shoot a bear from a boat till it runs. Get out of the boat quick and follow the bear a little. Then just stand still waiting. The bear will return after a while, standing next to you peacefully and following you like a pet from now on. Get back to the river and find a sharp edge. Trap the bear with your own body on this edge and shoot him. Voila, easy as pie.
