What is with all the pigs?

Postby Jubal » Mon Jun 07, 2010 5:45 pm

I can't seem to do anything without being trampled by boars. Am I just unlucky or am I doing something wrong? (I only started fifteen minutes ago so the latter might be true).

Even mroe embarassingly noobish, how do I log out? Or can I just quit and it'll autosave?

a) its more or less normal, beeing knocked out in the woods by boars (in the beginning. they are attacking everyone)
b) you already found out where the main menu is? (the half circle with the face, the heart,...)
there's a button with tools - click on it and you find the option "log out"
if you just close your client, it saves your progress too

edit: welcome to h&h. feel free to ask any more questions. this game is a little more complex than most other games ^^

Thanks, it seems to be quite complex but that makes it very much my kinda game. :P

Question 2: How do I get health back. I'm on red with no yellow, so I guess that's bad... and also, do trees "regain" wood after a while, or is it necessary to progressively migrate to keep getting wood for basket-making and fires?

in case of health, red is the good colour :)
you health is divided in 3 parts.
the red one is your actual health
the orange bar is the limit of health that you body is able to heal by time
black is the health you lost temporary. you can gain it back later [you can read about that on http://havenandhearth.wikia.com/wiki/Heal ,if you are interested]

the trees regain their branches, but it can take several real-life-days
just move a little around, there are plenty of trees normally

Right, things seem to be OK except that I've eaten most of my bread and I'm not sure what I do about getting more food. I assume I hunt, but can I just run up to a boar andhit it with an axe or is more specialist kit needed?

you're right, that would be suicide!
if you enabled the hunting-skill, you are able to hunt little animal like rabbits or chickens. just stand richt next to them (as near as possible) and rightclick them then. if you have 2*2 space in your inventory, you have it their.
then you wring neck+butcher it, using a campfire to roast the meat

alternativly, you can search for light forest (lighter green on minimap) where apple trees grow (+you find there hazelnuts and the chickens mentioned above)

when you enabled foraging and got your exploration a little higher than 1, you are also able to find spindly taproots on ground.
you can pick them by righklicking and use them either for food or as string, used for some structures or as fishing-line

edited, thanks Ariki . my mind wasn't about mines, i just don't distinguish any more ;) (crap i get 90lp for picking, i am dropping it afterwards)

I'm just about managing to get by, though I've had to eat a couple rats which I'm told isn't good for me. In all areas bar food and health it's going very well, but most of my health bar is now black which is a little concerning, and despite having wandered in one direction for quite a way (I found a boat and crossed a river... so if anyone has a boat missing, sorry. It's not far away.) I did find some apple and birch trees so I filled a birch container with apples then teleported home.

So I have a log cabin now which looks okay and has a few furnishings inside, quite near my hearth fire (dunno how to move that thing). As I say, I seem to be a long way from anywhere and without much food other than rats. And also I can't seem to get into any settlements, it always just tells me that the land is owned and I am kept out by a forcefield. Are there any settlements I could potentially get into in the game, or are settlements only for their members (and if so, where does trading occur?).

the ones you found are personal claims. you are able to give some specific permission for the ones, you kinned on your friendslist (ingame).
village claims allow trespassing, plus you get an information (like: entering Buyan), plus theres a big image on your minimap (a big red deer-skull)

try to avoid the rats. they will kill you!
maybe its better to settle near the apple-tree-area?!

Prolly would've been, but there was already a big village with a runestone outside saying "prepare to DIE" which was a little offputting. And I'm a little reluctant to abandon my little home now I've built it, I've nearly built a well nearby now.

There are some deer thingies around now, but I probably need better kit to hunt them.
