Every now and again i run into a boar while i am exploring or building. He is much stronger so he knocks me unconscious everytime. While i regain consciousness i notice that my max HP starts to deteriorate. It has gone from 100 to around 70, i was wondering if there is anyway to get my max HP back up to 100 again?

Basically, get your hands on Leeches or Gauze. Check the wiki, it's got all the info you should need. :D

My problem with this is that leeches seem to be grossly ineffective. I recently used a lot of them and lost 19SHP for a paltry 1HHP. And I'm really quite badly wounded, too; I've only got 21 HHP left after narrowly escaping a bear. Foraging is now an immensely risky activity, and it could take me months to get back to a healthy state at the rate leeches seem to work... am I just unlucky with my leeches? Am I pretty much doomed with such low health?

no, it is the bad quality of the leeches.
put the leeches, that are full with you blood in a cupboard and wait till the regenerate. they will get higher q each time you use them (but this also means they bite harder)
